Thailand Launches Privacy Education Campaign with Meta to Empower Users on Data Control

Thailand’s Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (MDES) and Personal Data Protection Committee (PDPC) have partnered with Meta to launch a privacy education campaign aimed at raising awareness among Thai users about the privacy controls available on Meta’s platforms. The initiative, which will span six weeks, kicks off today and will include a variety of content in Thai, such as social media posts, advertisements, and GIFs. These resources will be widely available on Facebook to reach a broad audience of Thai users. The campaign is designed to empower individuals with the knowledge and tools needed to manage their online privacy effectively. The collaboration underscores Meta’s ongoing commitment to privacy education and the efforts of MDES and PDPC to provide Thai consumers with the necessary information to make informed online privacy choices. Since 2019, Meta has invested $8 billion in its privacy program, developing numerous educational tools that offer users greater transparency and control over their data. Yingyos Leechaianan, Head of Public Policy for Facebook Thailand, expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “We are dedicated to protecting the privacy of our users and are thrilled to work with MDES and PDPC to help Thai users understand how to manage their privacy online. This campaign is a crucial step in promoting a safer and more secure online environment and ensuring that everyone has the information they need to use Meta’s services confidently.” By combining the expertise of MDES, PDPC, and Meta, the campaign seeks to build a more informed and secure online community. Providing users with the resources to manage their digital footprint not only enhances individual privacy but also contributes to a more trustworthy and user-friendly internet ecosystem.
