Meta Splits AI Team to Accelerate Product Development and Compete with OpenAI, Google
According to a report from Axios, Meta has reorganized its AI department into two distinct teams to accelerate product development. This restructuring does not involve any job cuts but aims to streamline efforts and boost innovation. The newly formed teams are the AI Products team and the AGI Foundations unit. The AI Products team will concentrate on developing consumer-facing features for Meta's popular platforms, including Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp. They will also work on Meta's standalone AI app, which is designed to enhance user experiences across these services. This team's primary goal is to integrate AI seamlessly into the everyday activities of Meta's vast user base, making AI-powered tools more accessible and useful. On the other hand, the AGI Foundations unit will tackle broader, long-term objectives. Their focus will be on advancing the company's large language models, such as the Llama series.
