Quora’s Poe Launches Developer API with Access to Over 100 AI Models
Quora’s AI platform Poe has launched a new developer API, giving software creators direct access to a wide range of AI models for integration into their own applications. The API is available at no additional cost, with usage tracked through Poe’s existing point-based subscription system. Each model interaction consumes a specific number of points, depending on the model and task. For example, generating a low-quality image using GPT-4o at a 1:1 aspect ratio and resolution of 1024 x 1024 requires 328 points. Poe offers several subscription tiers: a $4.99/month plan with 10,000 points per day, a $19.99/month plan providing 1 million points monthly, a $49.99/month option with 2.5 million points, a $99.99/month plan offering 5 million points, and a $249.99/month plan with 12.5 million points. Developers can also purchase additional points at a rate of $30 per million tokens, with no fixed packages—users can pay any amount to receive tokens accordingly. The API supports integration with tools like Cursor, Cline, Continue, Roo, and others that rely on OpenAI-compatible chat completion interfaces. It currently provides access to over 100 AI models across multiple modalities, including text, voice, image, and video generation. Featured models include Imagen 4, GPT Image 1, Flux Kontext, Seedream 3.0, Veo 3, Runway Gen 4 Turbo, Kling 2.1, ElevenLabs, and Lyria. This broad selection enables developers to build versatile AI-powered applications without switching platforms. Gareth Jones, Poe’s product lead for creators and developers, said the team is actively working on features to allow developers to expose their custom bots—built on Poe—as API endpoints. The company is also exploring improved key management systems to enhance security and usability for developers. While the current API requires manual model selection and management, Poe is considering adding budget controls and usage alerts based on developer feedback. The platform also supports consumer-facing tools, such as easy-to-use templates for creating AI apps, server bots, prompt bots, and image generation bots. With this new API, Poe aims to become a central hub for developers seeking flexible, multi-model access to cutting-edge AI tools—without the complexity of managing multiple vendor integrations.
