In a groundbreaking advancement at the intersection of artificial intelligence, neurotechnology, and neuroscience, University at Buffalo Neurosurgery (UBNS) and the Ambulatory Neurosurgery Center (ANSC™) have been awarded a $144,500 grant to launch the world’s first multi-omics research initiative focused on predicting the risk and rupture potential of intracranial aneurysms (IA). The project, powered by artificial intelligence, represents a transformative step in understanding and preventing one of the most dangerous cerebrovascular conditions. The initiative is led by UBNS and ANSC™ in strategic partnership with NOVA Neuro and Prima Mente, a pioneering precision medicine platform. The grant will fund a comprehensive analysis of genetic, molecular, and imaging data from patients with intracranial aneurysms, integrating these multi-omics datasets into a sophisticated AI-driven model. The goal is to identify early biological markers and predictive patterns that signal which aneurysms are most likely to rupture, enabling earlier intervention and personalized treatment plans. Intracranial aneurysms are balloon-like bulges in brain arteries that can rupture and cause life-threatening subarachnoid hemorrhages. While many aneurysms are discovered incidentally, current methods to predict rupture risk remain limited and often rely on size and location—factors that don’t fully capture individual biological variability. By combining AI with multi-omics data, the research team aims to move beyond traditional risk factors and uncover hidden biological pathways linked to aneurysm progression and rupture. The model will be trained on diverse patient data, including genomic profiles, proteomic signatures, and high-resolution imaging, to create a more accurate and dynamic risk assessment tool. This project marks a first-of-its-kind effort in the field, demonstrating how AI can be leveraged to decode complex neurological conditions at a molecular level. If successful, the platform could revolutionize clinical decision-making, reduce unnecessary procedures, and save lives by enabling timely, targeted interventions. The collaboration brings together experts in neurosurgery, computational biology, AI, and precision medicine, highlighting a new model for interdisciplinary innovation in healthcare. With support from NOVA Neuro and Prima Mente, the team is poised to set a new standard for predictive neurology and pave the way for AI-driven advances in brain health.
